What Walmart charges
Selling on Walmart Marketplace is simpler than Amazon on the fee side. There's no monthly plan, no listing fee, and no closing fee. You pay:
- A referral fee on each sale, a percentage of the total sale price by category. It's 15% for most categories, 8% for consumer electronics, and tiered for apparel, beauty, baby, and jewelry.
- WFS fees, only if you use Walmart Fulfillment Services: a per-unit fulfillment fee by shipping weight, monthly storage, and a few surcharges.
If you ship orders yourself, the referral fee is the only thing Walmart takes. The full breakdown, including the new seller discount and the June 2026 fee cuts, is in the Walmart Marketplace fees guide.
WFS fulfillment fees by shipping weight
| Shipping weight | Fee per unit |
|---|---|
| 1 lb or less | $3.45 |
| 2 lb | $4.95 |
| 3 lb | $5.45 |
| 4 to 20 lb | $5.75 + $0.40 per lb over 4 |
| 21 to 30 lb | $15.55 + $0.40 per lb over 21 |
| 31 to 50 lb | $14.55 + $0.40 per lb over 31 |
| 51 lb and up | $17.55 + $0.40 per lb over 51 |
| Surcharge | Added per unit |
|---|---|
| Total sale price under $10 | $1.00 |
| Apparel | $0.50 |
| Hazardous materials | $0.50 |
| Oversize (longest side over 48 inches) | $3.00 |
Storage is $0.75 per cubic foot per month for most of the year. From October through December, units stored more than 30 days pay $2.25 per cubic foot. Inventory older than 12 months pays more, so don't ship in more than you can sell in a few months.
The under-$10 trap, with real numbers
Here's why the $1.00 surcharge matters. I sell a two-pack of toothpaste tube squeezers for $9.99 on my Shopify store. Listed at that same price on WFS, the sale would look like this:
Walmart keeps about 60% of the sale price.
Price it at $10.49 instead and the surcharge disappears: Walmart takes $1.57 plus $3.45, and you're left with $5.47. A 50-cent price increase puts $1.43 more in your pocket per unit. Sell a four-pack at $12.99 and you keep $7.59 before the cost of four squeezers, because the fulfillment fee stays the same while the price goes up. That's the whole case for multi-packs in one example.
WFS or ship it yourself?
Switch the calculator to "I ship it myself" and enter your label cost to compare. On small, light items, WFS is usually cheaper than a USPS Ground Advantage label, and it gets you the fast-delivery badges that help items rank in Walmart search. Self-fulfilling makes more sense for heavy, slow-moving, or oddly shaped items where WFS storage adds up. My experience sending a first shipment is in what I learned from my first WFS shipment.
Questions people ask
Does Walmart charge a monthly fee?
No. Walmart Marketplace has no subscription or listing fee. You pay a referral fee when an item sells, plus WFS fees if Walmart fulfills it.
How does Walmart calculate WFS shipping weight?
Walmart takes the greater of the actual weight and the dimensional weight, adds 0.25 lb for packaging, and rounds up to the next whole pound. A 0.6 lb item becomes 0.85 lb, which rounds to 1 lb and lands in the $3.45 base band.
What is the under-$10 surcharge?
WFS adds $1.00 to the fulfillment fee on items with a total sale price under $10. On a $9.99 item that's a meaningful hit, so pricing at $10 or more, or selling a multi-pack, can be worth more than it looks.
Did Walmart lower referral fees in 2026?
Yes. On June 22, 2026 Walmart reduced referral fees in 14 categories, with the biggest cuts in apparel, consumer electronics, and home. Walmart hasn't published a simple old-versus-new table, so check the referral fee page for your category in Seller Center. This calculator uses the standard schedule, so your real fee may be lower.
Is there a discount for new sellers?
Walmart's New Seller Savings program discounts referral fees for stores that went live after February 1, 2026, running through January 31, 2027: 20% off on your first $50,000 in sales and more after that. You have to opt in on the payments page in Seller Center.
